It’s been over 2 years since our last blog post! Two years! We’re making a promise right here and right now to keep everybody way more updated on what’s up at Kurant. In this post, we’ll run down some of the big things that have happened since our last post. We moved!
Our humble beginnings started with renting space inside Round Guys Brewing Co in Lansdale. That worked out great for us for about the first 6 months. If anybody has ever been to Round Guys it’s a very small brewpub. Our equipment jammed in with theirs was a very tight fit and we quickly outgrew the space. It didn’t take us long to find a new home renting space in Perkasie PA from Free Will Brewing Co. They occupy a huge building which they’re slowly growing into, but they carved out a space just for us. The additional space has let us start to do fun things like barrel age cider and make enough cider to can! The move to Perkasie was great for production, but it didn’t give us any space for a taproom still. We wanted a taproom very badly so we started searching for the perfect space.
Our search for taproom space took us all over southeastern PA. We looked in Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties. Ultimately we knew we wanted to be in Philadelphia. That left us to pick a neighborhood. Philadelphia is full of neighborhoods that would be a great home for Kurant. We looked at properties in Brewerytown, East Passyunk, Fishtown, Kensington, and Northern Liberties. Ultimately we purchased a property in Fishtown and joined the rest of the cool kids making fermented craft beverages such as Philadelphia Distilling, Evil Genius, Fishtown Brewpub, St Benjamin’s Brewing, Fermentary Form, Red Brick Distilling, Rowhouse Spirits, and a few we’re sure we’re forgetting. To say it’s a booze destination is an understatement. We started construction on our Fishtown taproom back in January and plan to be open by the end of August this year. We’ve been posting updates of the process on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter so make sure to follow us on all our social media. By the end of the year we’ll have a Fishtown taproom and it’s going to be awesome.
We started canning! That was a huge step for us and a very big deal. Back in November of last year we launched our first cans. We started canning Bees, our dry cider with local honey first, and have since started canning Earth which is our dry-hopped cider. Both of those ciders are now available in cans. In conjunction with canning we needed somebody to sell all this cider we were making. We signed with Muller Inc, a great wholesale partner last year to cover Philadelphia and the surrounding five counties, and then very recently we’ve signed with Nevulis Beverage to sell our products in the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, and all the counties in between! We’re now distributed in 34 counties across eastern PA and we are currently looking into our first areas in other states. We’re growing rapidly and it’s all thanks to our amazing customers!
We get asked a lot about where customers can buy Kurant Cider. Unfortunately we don’t have a specific answer usually. We have some great accounts who pretty consistently stock at least one of our products. Both of Free Will Brewing Co’s taprooms almost always have cans of Bees and Earth available so we suggest stopping there first. If you’re looking for a Kurant product in your area you can contact us through our website via email or direct message us on any of our social media accounts and we’ll do our best to direct you to the nearest location with Kurant in stock.
So all in all its been a really crazy 2 years. We’re extremely excited about opening in Fishtown soon. We’ll be sure to post more info about that process as construction continues right up to the grand opening. We have lots of great events coming up this summer and we promise we’ll keep our events calendar loaded up so you can plan to attend as many events as possible. The next event coming up will be a special tasting with our friends at Boardroom Spirits in Lansdale Thursday 5/4 at 7pm in their tasting room. We’ll be sampling a special cocktail made with their spirits and Kurant cider as well as sampling both Bees and Earth ciders.
